Despite the positive indications of taking a concentrated supplement, patients should be reminded that a supplement is exactly that. It is not a panacea that will magically dispel an illness. Rather it should be viewed as a useful tool in a larger program of treatment. This may include taking other supplements or medications, as well as eating a healthy diet and participating in appropriate weight-bearing exercise.

Before taking supplements patients should read the labels and follow the guidelines. This mineral is most beneficial when taken on its own. If it is taken at the same time as a calcium supplement some of the positive benefits will be compromised. However, it is still important that patient continue with calcium supplementation. The effect of strontium on immature bone tissue is not yet known and therefore it is not recommended in treating children.
