Clinical Depression vs. Situational Depression

By Kurt Pedersen

Unipolar depression is a very serious health problem that warrants speedy professional intervention. Depression is one of the world's most frequently faced illnesses, and recent United Nations World Health Organization research signals that the problem will continue to increase and will soon be the second most perilous worldwide medical problem, following only heart problems.

Not all depression is the same, and a brief sense of sadness is standard for all of us. Depression exists when those normal feelings are experienced without sufficient motivation, or the feelings remain after they should have passed. Clinical depression is the harshest of depressions. Others suffer with situational depression or lingering low-grade depression (dysthymia). All occurrences of depression merit careful attention, but those experiencing unipolar depression should right away seek treatment from a qualified doctor.

Situational depression is fetched from precise events and has a tendency to abate within one or two weeks. Although it may share many of the same features of major depressive disorder such as, agitation, anxiousness, changes in appetite or sleeping habits, it's not as harsh or long lasting.

One could be experiencing clinical depression when their "down mood" lasts for over two weeks. Typically, those going through the illness are virtually unable to enjoy any piece of their life. Suicidal ideation and a sense of complete apathy are common.

Clinical examples of depression don't always need any explicit trigger. Events in one's life can accelerate towards such conditions. This suggests that episodes of depression as seemingly can be linked to a specific happening, shouldn't be instantly assumed to be situational in nature.

While situational depression may disappear as the victim finds tactics to cope with the problem's triggers, medically depressed people often require pro help to cope with the condition. Often, antidepressant medications and/or therapeutic solutions are prescribed for the handling of clinical depression. People who fail to seek help for their depression may experience an escalation in the seriousness of symptoms. This may enfeeble one's standard of living, and can also be deadly for some people.

All types of depression negatively impact the quality of life for sufferers and may be taken seriously. But clinical episodes of depression are of such amazing potential severity that one must take action to prevent a worsening of the situation.

If you or an individual you know is experiencing common symptoms connected with depression and has been in that rut for more than a couple of weeks, medical treatment should be instantly sought. The longstanding stigma regarding mental illness in our society should not be a reason to avoid looking for treatment. Fortunately, those biases are beginning to disappear as the limits of the depression pandemic become better known.

It is fully possible to deal with this condition. Lots of people get over illness and go on to live ecstatic, well-adjusted lives, after handling major depressive disorder.
