Keeping The Faith During Christian Anxiety

By Teri Farley

Accepting a Christian way of life is often symbolized by the first time we say the sinner's prayer. When we come to realize that God is in control, it makes it possible to deal with Christian anxiety and not have our faith come into question. This is a part of the great love and mercy God gives each person.

Reading bible versus and kneeling to pray in earnest may seem contrary to the reality of stress but there is actually a connection that bears mentioning. Many Christians are faced with this truth but scared to speak of it for concern that their faith may be put under the microscope. We have good news regarding this however and the truth is that it is a myth that anyone facing Christian anxiety is less of a believer. So take heart in your struggle.

Let's start with the fact that we are human. The connection of our soul to our bodies is representative of powers we cannot begin to understand with our finite human minds. Likewise, because we are people and very human, even though we have a connection to our faith and our believe in a higher power, it does not exempt us from certain emotions and experiences such as Christian anxiety that may seem counteractive or counterproductive to our beliefs.

Sometimes negativity plays a critical role in our feelings and can be problematic. This is not a reflection that we have failed to trust God. Quite the contrary, with a continued prayer life and daily devotional reading, we can come to understand how to cope with Christian anxiety and not be overwhelmed by such experiences. At the end of each day, we can take comfort in knowing God will not abandon us.

This is applicable to every person, no matter what your religious affiliation may be. When life hands you such difficulties, be willing to accept it at face value and not let your relationship with God come into question simply because the problem arises.

Some Christians hold the sentiment that it is an advantage to believe in God when such stressful times arise. This is because, we can lean back on the knowledge that what our finite mind and body cannot handle, there is help and hope in the strength and love of God that will get us through when we are facing various challenges. We have only to trust and believe.

Our jobs, our families, our friends and virtually any other aspect of our lives can be the source of anxiety, despair and stress. The good news is that in any instance we are behooved to remember that while we are not exempt, we can take heart in knowing that such troubles are not meant to last a lifetime nor is it intended to completely overwhelm us.

If we can retain just the smallest portion of faith that God will help us to make it through Christian anxiety, we are guaranteed God's provisions of grace for our lives.
